Welcome to the Discipline of Philosophy in the School of Humanities and Social Inquiry (HSI) at the University of Wollongong!In HSI Philosophy, we focus on contemporary, applied philosophical issues in areas such as bioethics, environmental philosophy, philosophy of mind, philosophy of medicine, political philosophy, and philosophy of science. Our research is interdisciplinary, involving collaborations with colleagues in areas such as biology, computing science, education, health and society, law, literature, materials science, mathematics, neuroscience, physics and psychology. Rather than focusing on ancient ideas, we concentrate on current problems and ways in which clear and careful philosophical thought can contribute to developing new ideas and ways of understanding.
