There are the lecture slides for everyone, and the tutorial powerpoint as well for this week on virtual worlds. Remember that class times have changed: Tuesday 8.30am in Orion, Tuesday 3.30pm in Orion, and Wednesday 8.30am in Orion. This will apply to Week 12 as well.
The next two tutorials will be dedicated to exploring the virtual world Second Life. Because of a glitch in the Matrix (or, more realistically, a problem where only 5 users can create accounts from the same IP address in an hour), I will need anyone who does not already have an account to create a Second Life avatar and account before the tutorial in Week 11 (Tuesday and Wednesday).
I’ve put all the details on how to join in a Scribd doc below for you.
Please ensure you do this before class or you may have to share with someone (which is nowhere near as fun, trust me). Drop me an email at fanthropology@gmail.com with your avatar name once you’ve got it set up! It just makes things a lot smoother on the day.
Becky has gotten a new job! Congratulations to her! Unfortunately, this means she’ll be leaving us for the bright lights of Canberra. As I’m already slotted in to give the Week 11 & 12 lectures, I’ll be taking over the subject for the rest of the semester (such as it is). Make sure you wish her good luck next time you see her!
Also, in Weeks 11 & 12 the tutorial times will be changing (and going back to the regular times in Week 13). Here are the new times:
3.30pm – 5.30pm, Tuesday
4.30-6.30pm, Thursday
12.30-2.30pm, Friday
These are all in the Orion lab, and you can come to any of the three times.
Here’s the Powerpoint for Week 10′s tutorials on media piracy and internet users.
It appears there’s a page missing from the printed reader for the chapter by Anna Munster for this week. It’s the second page, p. 398 in the chapter, and page 130 in the printed reader. You can view this page online through the library website. Search the catalogue for the readings for DIGC101, and open the .pdf for Munster. I’ve added a link to a downloadable version here:
We’ll be making YouTube videos in class this week, and also looking at some examples of web projects. Bring in laptops, video cameras, and so on to record your video!
